The American School came highly recommended when we were looking for schools for our kids in Chennai.
The best part is that the education system is identical to that they are used to in the US.
Fees is certainly on the high side compared to other international schools. Another alternative is to consider the British International School.

AISCH - Expensive and hard to get admission
This is one of the highly rates schools in Chennai if you are planning to send your kid outside of India after high school but comes at a steep price (~$20k/year). They offer AP as well as IB program with excellent extra curricular activities.
Unfortunately, the recent spike in expats moving to Chennai has strained their resources and most classes have a long wait list and the school is unable to predict when openings will come up. That is a good problem to have.
